Description
Knowing a wild animal is feeling the pulse of the earth, undiluted, in my own body. The ancient dreams that have no names. The song from the dawn of creation that meets the longing in my heart. The tenderness so raw it is like pain. The intimacy beyond cognition. Deepening into the womb where otherness does not exist, and all are children of the same ancient mother. The power of life force coursing through this shy, innocent being to persevere and thrive through millennia on the changing Earth. Life itself. The medicine that heals me.
How much I want to learn to walk in reverence for all the keepers of the wild heartbeat. To sincerely humble myself in the face of Life. How much I long to free myself from the anthropocentric illusion of superiority and bow to the truth of the earth, love of the trees, wisdom of the animals.
This painting is in gratitude for the gift of the Opossum Medicine. It is in prayer for all opossums and all nonhuman people we share this planet with.
